Ama Yangri Trek is a perfect option if you are looking for a short trek. You can complete this within 3-4 days. It is located in the Helambu region of Sindhupalchowk district, it offers you a spectacular view of the surrounding landscape and Himalayas. It is a hidden gem and the best trek near the Kathmandu Valley and is known as the highest peak at an elevation of 3771m. You will get an amazing view of Langtang, Everest, Annapurna, and Manaslu from Ama Yangri Peak.
You will get an opportunity to explore the green landscape and Hyolmo culture and famous for Thanka arts. The trek passes through oak forest, pine, and beautiful rhododendron. Permit for Ama Yangri trek
You need to buy a Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card, the guiding company will arrange the card. This card plays a role to trek in Nepal and the safety of trekkers, this card cost Rs 3000 and Rs 1500 for the citizen of SAARC.
Ama Yangri Trek itinerary
Day 1. Chabahil to Tarkeghyang
There are only a few buses to reach Melamchi, it takes 3 hours to reach Melamchi which covers 90 Km, and from there you will reach Timbu. You can drive to Tarkeghyang, but will be difficult if it is a rainy season, you need to hike to Tarkeghyang. It takes around 5-6 hours to reach Tarkeghyang.
Day 2. Tarkeghyang to Ama Yangri
From Tarkeghyang you will ascend to Ama Yangri. It will take 5 hours to reach Ama Yangri The hike takes through the oak forest and slowly ascends to the peak, with an amazing view of the Helambu region. It will be better to carry water and food during the trek. After exploring Ama Yangri you will descend back to Tarkeghyang. You will stay overnight at Tarkeghyang.
Day 3. Back to Kathmandu
From Tarkeghyang you will get the bus if not, you can hike back to Timbu and drive back to Kathmandu 3 hour’s drive
