The Annapurna Region’s newest and first-ever trek is the Khopra Ridge Trek. It is one of the less well-known and commercialized hikes in the area. You get a magnificent view of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Annapurna during the hike. The trek be can completed this trek within 5-6 days based on your itinerary. You can add the Ghorepani Poonhill trek or you can trek to Khayer Lake. Trekking to Khayer Lake takes you close to Mt Annapurna.

Many people think that the Trek Is similar to the Poonhill trek without the crowd, but the trek is slightly more difficult trek compared to the Poonhill trek. There are many itineraries for the trek. During the trek, you will pass through many other famous treks like Poonhill, Mardi Himal, Annapurna Base Camp, and Mohare Dada. You can trek to this destination according to your wish.

Location

Khopra Ridge Khayer Lake Trek is located northeast of Pokhara, it covers Kaski and Myagdi districts. The best option is to start the trek from Nayapul, and reach Ghandruk, Dobato visits the Muldai viewpoint and reaches the destination, and treks upper to Khayer Lake. It is located at an elevation of 3500m and Khayer Lake at an elevation of 4600m.

Best season to trek Khopra Ridge Khayer Lake Trek

The best season for trekking is September, October, November, March, April, and May. During the peak season, it will be difficult to get lodging due to the scarcity of tea houses. The weather will be bright and sunny during the daytime. The weather will be cold above 3700m.

Difficulty of trek

This trek is considered a moderate trek, the route is long and steep at some point, which can be difficult for beginner trekkers. Trekkers need to walk for around 5-6 hours every day The trails will be led at elevation 4500m to Khayer Lake.

View Point

Mulde viewpoint: You can reach Mulde viewpoint by 30 minutes walk from Dobato, at an elevation of 3637m. From this viewpoint, you can view many mountains, including Fewa Lake. You will get a spectacular view of Mt Annapurna, Mt Dhaulagiri, Mt Nilgiri, and Lamjung Himal.

Khopra is the main highlight of this trek. It lies at an elevation of 3600m, where you will get a spectacular view of the Dhaulagiri range, Annapurna South, Bara Shikhar along with other snow-capped mountains.

Itinerary for Khopra dada trek

Day 1: Pokhara to Ghandruk (1970m)

On this day, we will drive to Ghandruk by jeep which takes around 2-3 hours. We will drive through Nayapul, which is one of the main tourist attractions. Many popular treks like Annapurna Base Camp, Poonhill, and Khopra trek start from Nayapul. After reaching Ghandruk we will explore Buddhist Monastery and many more.

Day 2: Ghandruk to Tadapani (2610m)

We will trek to Tadapani from Ghandruk. We will reach Baishe Kharka after a 2-3 hour hike, and we will have a break at Baishe Kharka. After reaching Tadapani we will climb uphill. You will encounter Annapurna South, Himchuli, and Macchapurchhre from Tadapani if the sky is clear.

Day 3: Tadapani to Dobato (3360m)

On this day, we hike through dense forest. On the way, there is a chance to see wild animals like Musk deer, beer, snow leopards, Himalayan Thar, and many more birds. After we reach Dobato you will see the spectacular view of Tukche Peak and the Dhaulagiri range. We will stay overnight at Dobato.

Day 4: Dobato to Chistibung (3005m)

After breakfast, we will continue to walk through the forest to reach Lower Chistibun for lunch. After that, we will continue to hike to reach upper Chistibung. On the way, we will be passing through pastures and buffalo gazing. We will stay at small lodges at Chistibung.

Day 5: Chistibung to Khopra (3640m)

From Chistibung we walk for around 2-3 hours to reach Khopra. We will ascend above the timberlines to reach Khopra. From Khopra’s viewpoint, you will see the spectacular view of the Dhaulagiri range. Tukche Peak, Dhampus Peak, Nilgir, Annapurana I and Annapurna South.

Day 6: Khopra to Khayer Lake (4600m)

Early in the morning, we will start our trek to Khayer Lake. You will hike a full day around from Khopra to Khayer Lake. After 7-8 hours of hike, you will reach the lake and you will encounter Annapurna South in front of your eyes. Before starting the trek to Khayer Lake be prepared with lunch, water, energy bar, and be prepared warm clothes for the cold temperature. Back to Khopra dada.

Day 7: Khopra to Tatopani (1190m)

On this day, we hike down to Tatopani through the beautiful forest and village, we continue to walk down to Tatopani. At Tatopani, we relax bathe and relax in the hot spring then back to the lodge.

Day 8: Back to Pokhara

After breakfast, at Tatopani, we will drive back to Pokhara.
