Tso Rolpa Trek

Tso Rolpa Trek is one of the popular treks and new destinations in Rolwaling Valley. Tso Rolpa is situated in the northeastern region at an elevation of 4580m in the Dolakha district. It is one of the biggest glaciers in Nepal, located between the Langtang and Everest ranges. It is a new trekking route and offers mesmerizing views of mountains like Mt. Dorje Lakpa, Mt Garishankar, and Mt. Melungtse. You will follow the trail that provides an opportunity to explore villages like Brahmin, Chhetri, Sherpa, and Tamang village and provide an opportunity to experience local culture and hospitality. 

On this trek, there is plenty of time for trekkers to acclimatize since the trek starts from a low altitude. The trail is well managed and one of the finest routes, you will witness lots of waterfalls during this trek.

Tso means lake and Rolpa means Rolwaling Valley in the Sherpa Language. Tso Rolpa treks required 6-8 hours of hike. The average level of fitness is essential for the completion of this trek.

Difficulty of trek

The lake is situated at an elevation of 4580m, getting at this elevation is not easy or more difficult. The Rolwaling Valley route is not difficult, you need to hike 6-8 hours every day climbing 300m-400m. The average level of fitness is essential for the completion of this trek. 

Permit for Tso Rolpa

You need to buy a Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card, the guiding company will arrange the card. This card plays a role in trekking in Nepal and the safety of trekkers, this card costs $17.

A Garishankar Conservation Area permit is also required which costs Rs 3,000 in Nepalese currency and cost Nepali Rs 1,000 for the citizen of SAARC.

Best time to trek

The best season for Tso Rolpa Trek is September to November and March to May when the weather will be clear. During this season the skies will be clear and offer amazing views of the Himalayas. This trek is not recommended during monsoon season due to slippery roads which can be dangerous and the high risk of landslide.

Tso Rolpa Trek Itinerary

Day 1. Kathmandu to ChetChet and trek to Simigaun (2019m)

Early in the morning, we will take a bus to ChetChet. It will take around 7-8 hours to cover 195km to reach there. After you reach to ChetChet, you start your trek to ChetChet which will take 2 hours. Simigaun is starting point of the Tso Rolpa trek lies in Garishankar Conservation Area. You will stay overnight at Simigaun.

Day 2. Simigaun to Dongang (2794m)

Today you will be trekking to Dongang. You will trek through route Uttise and Surmuche which will lead to Dongang. You will stay overnight at Dongang.

Day 3. Dongang to Beding (3650m)

You will trek Beding, and on the way to Beding, you will explore Thanding Kharka. After you reach Beding you will get a chance to experience the Sherpa village, culture, and lifestyle. You will stay overnight at Beding in the tea house.

Day 4. Beding to Naa (4180m)

Early in the morning, you will trek to Naa village which is the gateway to Rolwaling Valley. The main attraction is the Rolwaling mountain range, the tradition, and the culture of Sherpa in Naa Village. Overnight at Naa Village.

Day 5. Naa to Tso Rolpa (4580m)

Early in the morning, you will trek to the lake which is around a 2-3-hour hike from Naa. The paranomic mountain ranges will welcome the lake to the beautiful spot of ice water. You will witness an amazing view of Gauri Shankar Himal. Rowaling Valley is linked to the Everest region and some trekkers cross Tashi Pass 5700m and go to Namche Bazaar. Tashi Pass is the most challenging pass. After spending time in the lake, you will head back to Naa Village and stay overnight at Naa.

Day 6. Naa to Beding 

On this, you will start your trek back to Beding which takes around 4-5 hours of hike, and stay overnight at Beding.

Day 7. Beding to Gongar Khola

You will hike back to Gongar Khola which is 6 hours hike. You will hike along the Tamakoshi River.

Day 8. Back to Kathmandu

Today you will drive back to Kathmandu and takes around 9 hours drive to reach Kathmandu.
